Mase pulled away from her, hating to, but needing to.
âWhat do you have to show me?â
The devilish twinkle in her eyes told him he could have his wicked way with her right here and now if he wanted. He didnât think his brother would mind at all. Not that heâd share what they might do in here.
But thatâs not why he brought her outside.
âI actually didnât have anything to show you.â
The desire in her eyes dwindled until nothing but trepidation glimmered back. Her brows lowered, even her smile disappeared.
âWell, why did we come out here?â
She instinctively knew he didnât come out here for a quick romp against his workbench. Not that heâd mind if it happened before they went back into the house.
âI havenât had a chance to talk to you without my brother or Mia around and I justâ¦â Oh, shit. How did he have this conversation? Where to start? Hell, why was he doing it on Christmas Eve of all days?
Well, duh. He knew why. Because the more time he spent with her, the harder he was falling for her. If they werenât on the same page about things, then it would be better to rip the band-aid off right away, so to speak, rather than wait.
âAnd,â Hope said, waving her hand in a circular motion for him to continue.
âAnd I felt a weird vibe when I mentioned the word girlfriend.â God, that sounded so dumb. Could he be any more ridiculous?
She took a step back.
Not a good sign.
Shit.
He shouldâve waited. Because when she broke his heart, heâd always be reminded of this moment on Christmas Eve. What a way to ruin his holiday.
âI mean, do we have to define things so soon?â
He cocked a brow as he folded his arms. âYeah, it would be nice. Iâm not here for a friend with benefits sort of thing, Hope. So I wasnât wrong that you didnât like me calling you my girlfriend?â
âIt surprised me. You said we could take this at my pace. It doesnât sound like youâre doing that now.â
He nearly groaned but managed to swallow it. She was right, of course. He had said he wouldnât rush her, and here he was doing exactly that. But he didnât see anything wrong at defining them as a couple.
âI wonât share with other guys.â
Hope rolled her eyes. âI have no plans on sleeping with anyone else. Iâm offended you think I would.â
âI donât think you would.â The way she rolled her eyes again said she didnât believe him. Honestly, he didnât think that, but it was nice to have the confirmation they were at least on the same page. âSince weâre agreed on that, what is the big deal if I call you my girlfriend? Weâre a couple.â
âNo, weâreâ¦we areâ¦â She sighed heavily.
He loosened his stance and dropped his arms to his sides. âWeâre what? Because I canât do just friends with sex on the side. I care about you, Hope. I need some kind of definition here orâ¦â
Shit, shit, shit.
